Canon printer troubleshooting and error code guide

Canon printers, particularly the mega-tank PIXMA G series (G2411, G3411, G3420) and compact laser i-SENSYS models, are widely used across homes, hotel reception desks, and corporate offices in Antalya. In our workshop, Canon repairs primarily involve absorber full errors (5B00), printhead short circuits (B200), paper feed jams, and ink line air blockages.

Quick answer: For error 5B00, reset the waste ink counter using specialized service software. For B200, clean printhead gold contacts or replace the printhead. If the printer fails to feed paper, clean the rear pickup roller. If colors are missing, run a deep printhead flush.

1. Waste Ink Absorber Full: Error 5B00

Symptoms: The printer halts printing, power and resume lights alternate blinking 7 times, and Windows displays error code 5B00 or 1700.

Root cause: Every cleaning cycle discharges waste ink into sponges under the chassis. A safety counter halts the printer once estimated capacity reaches 100% to protect furniture.

Safe home steps: Basic power cycling will NOT clear this error. Entering Service Mode manually without proper software can brick the mainboard EEPROM.

Workshop repair: Complete disassembly to replace or clean absorber pads, followed by digital counter zeroing using genuine Canon Service Tool utility. See Canon 5B00 error guide.

2. Printhead Voltage & Overheating: Error B200

Symptoms: Printer halts with error code B200 (or alternating 10 blinks), refusing all copy and print jobs.

Root cause: Thermal resistors inside the microscopic ink nozzles run dry and overheat, causing a voltage short across the printhead flex circuit.

Safe home steps: Remove the printhead carefully, clean the rear gold contact pads with pure isopropyl alcohol, let dry thoroughly, and reseat.

Workshop repair: Oscilloscope measurement of carriage board voltages. If internal circuitry is shorted, a brand-new genuine Canon printhead is installed. See Canon B200 error guide.

3. Paper Feed Failures & Roller Slippage

Symptoms: The feed motor spins loudly, but paper remains in the tray; or paper enters skewed and jams.

Root cause: Rubber pickup rollers become slick or coated with paper dust. In tourist apartments, foreign objects frequently lodge in vertical trays.

Safe home steps: Inspect the paper tray with a flashlight. Clean visible rubber roller surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth.

Workshop repair: Replacement of worn D-shaped pickup rollers and separation pads. See Canon printer paper feed guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does error code 5B00 mean on a Canon PIXMA printer?

Error 5B00 (or 7 blinks) indicates the internal waste ink absorber pad (ink sponge) counter has reached its maximum threshold. The printer locks to prevent ink overflow. The physical pad must be replaced or washed, and the internal EEPROM counter reset using Canon Service Tool software.

What causes the dreaded Canon B200 error and can it be fixed?

Error B200 signals abnormal printhead voltage or extreme overheating. While reseating the printhead and deep cleaning contact pins occasionally works, persistent B200 errors usually mean the printhead ceramic thermal nozzles have shorted out and require replacement.

Why does my Canon G-series tank printer not pick up paper?

Smooth or glazed rubber pickup rollers and foreign objects (paperclips, staples) falling into the rear tray are the most common causes. Cleaning rollers with rubber rejuvenator or replacing worn pickup rollers restores feed.

How do I resolve Canon printer offline errors in Windows?

Uncheck "Use Printer Offline" in Windows Printers & Scanners settings. Restart the Print Spooler service, cycle printer and Wi-Fi router power, and assign a static IP address to avoid network connection drops.
